Stag in the Jemez Mountains, a mixed media art doll sculpture for wall display

Stag in the Jemez Mountains

Stag is made with an antique kid leather glove for the body with the fingers of the glove representing his legs. His face and ears are made from repurposed fabric and  hand embroidered. His antlers are made from twigs gathered in the Jemez mountains. The body is painted with animal, bird and insect tracks and there are embroidered cartography symbols.. Redondo peak of the Jemez Mountains is embroidered on the body with red stitches along the border, showing where a forest fire burned at the mountain’s edge. Antique trade beads are tied at the neck. Stag stands silently at dusk, his body a shadow among shadows. As he traverses the forest, he gathers the stories of animals, birds, insects, wildfires, peaks and valleys onto his body. At every moment, the air around him fits his body like a glove. He is home.

Stag in the Jemez Mountains is a one of a kind mixed media textile sculpture measuring 26 x 10 x 8 inches with a wall hanging loop on the back.
